Do you believe the claim made by this administration that the majority of the oil spilled in the Gulf of Mexico has just disappeared?

What started as a few thousand gallons a day turned into tens of thousands, or so we were told.

We were told corexit was non-toxic until we were told by outside sources that it was.

Now we're told that the oil is just disappearing at a rate no one can substantiate with any measure of certainty.

My skepticism now knows no bounds.

What a shame. What a wasted opportunity on SO MANY LEVELS.

But hey, it's not such a bad day, the decision on Prop H8te today caused my gay Daughter to call me in tears (of happiness) and we rejoiced together.

Some days you eat the Bear, and some days the Bear eats you. Today, we dined on Grizzly. Tomorrow we'll go back to having our guts torn out by something much larger than ourselves.

Certain DU'ers are saying that "if Obama says it's so..." it must be true. They're doing their level best to find ways to back up that claim without any substantiation whatsoever.

Color me NOT surprised.

White House energy advisor Carol Browner said this on CBS 'The Early Show'

"I think we are getting some good news out of the Gulf in terms of the information from the static kill and also what our scientists are telling us - the vast majority of the oil has been contained, it's been burned, it's been cleaned and that's good news for the people of the Gulf," Browner said on CBS' "The Early Show".

Browner said the remaining oil is expected to "break down naturally."

"Mother Nature will do her part, but we'll continue to be vigilant to ensure anything that comes on shore, the tar balls, the sheen, is cleaned up rapidly," she said.

The report's calculations were based on daily operational reports, estimates by scientists and various analyses by experts. The government acknowledged it made certain assumptions about how oil dissolves in water naturally over time.

Officials, while encouraged by the report, stressed that the fight wasn't over.

"Less oil on the surface does not mean that there isn't oil still in the water column or that our beaches and marshes aren't still at risk," NOAA Administrator Jane Lubchenco cautioned in a news release.

and the other half is in the process of being degraded. Some of that has been dispersed.

And there is still an enormous amount of repair to do.

This is what Obama said. Perhaps you need to know what the word "dispersed" means, I don't know. Dispersed means the oil is in a state that it can rapidly degrade.

"One place in our country where people have faced particular struggles in the last few months is in the Gulf of Mexico as a result of the BP oil spill. So it was very welcome news when we learned overnight that efforts to stop the well through what’s called a “static kill” appear to be working - and that a report out today by our scientists show that the vast majority of the spilled oil has been dispersed or removed from the water. So the long battle to stop the leak and contain the oil is finally close to coming to an end. And we are very pleased with that. (Applause.)

Our recovery efforts, though, will continue. We have to reverse the damage that’s been done, we will continue to work to hold polluters accountable for the destruction they’ve caused, we’ve got to make sure that folks who were harmed are reimbursed, and we’re going to stand by the people of the region however long it takes until they’re back on their feet."

and it was said over and over yesterday on many MSM that the white house said the oil has disappeared..I heard it ..many times yesterday beginning in the early am on MSNBC! I darned well know what I heard repeatedly yesterday on numerous MSM!

I have a vested interest..My back yard is the Gulf of Mexico! I know what I heard repeatedly!

I don't care what the MSM said, Obama and the White House never said all the oil disappeared.

Dispersed is not "disappeared" and the material posted specifically says it is in a state where it will biodegrade.

Regardless, even if 75% DID disappear, the other 25% is still there and is still going to be visible, and damage is still going to need to be cleaned up, as the President also said.

Nobody has said this is over and if that is what you get from watching the MSM, well then shut the fucking liars off.

WASHINGTON — Many scientists say they're skeptical of a widely publicized government report Wednesday that concludes much of the oil that gushed from BP's leaking well is gone and poses little threat to the Gulf of Mexico .

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration , the "vast majority" of the 4.9 million barrels released into the Gulf has either evaporated "or been burned, skimmed, and recovered from the wellhead, or dispersed."

"I'm suspect if that's accurate or not," said Ronald Kendall , the director of the Institute of Environmental and Human Health at Texas Tech University and one of the scientists who testified Wednesday at a congressional hearing about the need for more research into the composition and use of chemical dispersants to break up the oil in the Gulf.

"It's an estimate and I'd like to say that even if it's true, there are still 50 to 60 million gallons that are still out there," he said. "It's too early to draw the conclusion that the coast is clear, but there are species there that will tell us.''

The White House used the report to boost public confidence that the accident at BP's drilling site, which killed 11 workers, fouled the Gulf, killed wildlife and disrupted the regional economies from Texas to Florida , is now behind the nation.

Many scientists, however, questioned both the rosy White House assessment and the administration's motives, timing and record of estimating how much oil was flowing from the well.

The workshops I took in preparation for that course always came to one point: Don't LIE; embellish.

If you ever answered a phone at a business, then you're a qualified Switchboard Operator.

If you ever answered a question posed by a customer of a business, then you're a qualified Customer Service Representative.

If you ever handled a dollar at a business, then at the very least, you assisted the Comptroller.

I never realized that those workshops were taught by the people who now staff the Obama Administration.

13. What if the ocean is like the internal combustion engine?

I've heard one report that the amount of oil spilled in the Gulf is only enough oil to run our automobiles for 1/4 of a one day. So all that oil refined into gas ends up burned in 1/4th of a day.

The gulf waters and microscopic sea life might legitimately act like the internal combustion engine in breaking down the oil into a safe substances.

One process is man made and the other is nature. Just another take on the spill.



Problem is, BP could tell us the Gulf is degrading the oil and no one would believe them. That's why they have been spending millions on non-stop ad campaigns. They are trying reprogram people and probably potential jurors. BP wouldn't be spending that money if they weren't right. Why waste the money? But BP has zero credibility because they have been lying from the very first day. When anything happens to any corporation they automatically send out their spokesperson to start crafting the message. They deny, lie and deceive. But they are never honest with the people. In order to rise to the top of a large corporation you had to sell yourself to get there.

14. Its not dissapearing, its becoming invisible. But tests confirm that oil ppb is still too high

and people are in and playing along the effected areas. There is this new "scabbies" or "staph" outbreak occurring in LA. Even the more infamous Kindra has been affected. Its most likely due to the dispersants. The dispersants are horrible, horrible, horrible... made worse when exposed to warm temperatures.

I certainly wouldn't eat any seafood from the gulf waters. There is no telling what toxins are in the sea life there. I don't care if authorities say it's safe. I don't believe them.

I am beginning to believe that both our parties view big corporations as FAR more important that the citizens they represent.
