Law: Obama Stimulus Package Gives Billions to Job Training in U.S.

Hmmm...gee. I read David Sirota's diary and was a bit flummoxed that President Obama's administration, apparently through USAID, was actively outsourcing 3,000 jobs to Sri Lanka to the tune of $20 million or something.

I mean, $20 million is a lot of money. And as a lot of commenters rightfully pointed out, that's $20 million more dollars that could be spent here! On creating jobs here!

Because, as we all know, the President obviously doesn't want to create jobs here. At all.

So, I did some digging...looky what I found, via Progressive States Network...how much was spent on the stimulus package alone, on worker training, right here in the good ole U.S. of A? NEARLY $4 BILLION DOLLARS:

Training Funds: $3.95 billion is provided for the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) to fund job training and employment services. $2.95 billion will be distributed to states using standard WIA formulas, with $1.2 billion for youth activities, $1.25 billion for dislocated workers, and $500 million for adult activities. It also provides $50 million for YouthBuild, $750 million for a new competitive grant program for worker training and placement in high growth and emerging industries, and $200 million for the dislocated workers assistance national reserve.

Lest you think this is some sort of...propaganda, I hasten to point out, again, the source of this is Progressive States Network...of which, Mr. Sirota himself was a Founding Co-Chair.

$4 billion for worker training in the U.S.A. vs. $20 million for a USAID program dubbed as "outsourcing."

1. The Information Week info on this that Sirota quotes in his diary includes a recent update

Stating that USAID is also helping fund training of IT outsourced works in Armenia. That will ensure even more low cost IT employees for private industry to take jobs from Americans. USAID would (surprise!) not reveal how much money it is providing.

2. Right...and.

I still oppose spending even $1 of taxpayer money to create jobs which could be done domestically instead for foreign workers in foreign countries until every American who wants a job has a job.

Shocking, I know. The guy who supports domestic labor, thinks we should repeal FTAs, tariff foreign-made durable goods and fine US companies who outsource jobs 115% of what it would cost to keep that job in America wants to see USAID de-funded.

Oh wait...that's completely logically consistent.

3. Hey, I can't argue with your belief on this topic.

It won't happen, but I agree the administration needs to seriously consider every $ they send overseas. We need to drastically reduce or eliminate many of the programs until we get our people working good jobs.

4. Job training is great, but if we keep training foreigners to be our

outsourced labor, then job training here is useless. And I believe this is part of Sirota's point. We get "job training" but no jobs. Overseas workers get the training AND the jobs. There's something wrong with that picture.
