Massive Censorship Of Digg Uncovered
http://blogs.alternet.org/oleoleolson/2010/08/05/massive-censorship-of-digg-uncovered/

A group of influential conservative members of the behemoth social media site Digg.com have just been caught red-handed in a widespread campaign of censorship, having multiple accounts, upvote padding, and deliberately trying to ban progressives. An undercover investigation has exposed this effort, which has been in action for more than one year.

“The more liberal stories that were buried the better chance conservative stories have to get to the front page. I’ll continue to bury their submissions until they change their ways and become conservatives.”

2. What I want to know is: Who the hell opens a news site and says
finally, my dream of becoming a propagandist has come true!

How can real journalists and editors sit next to these assholes and tolerate it? Good for the undercover investigators, but why did it take one year and why doesn't more media police itself?

10. Real journalists and editors are becoming a rarity IMO. None have to really be
Edited on Fri Aug-06-10 07:51 AM by RKP5637
published today, they just spit out what they want on the internet and can influence the gullible as often as they wish. And in fact we still have an element of our citizenry that thinks everything on TV, for example, is truthful much as those that used to read newspapers and shout back at you, they can't print it if it isn't truthful. Hence, we sadly have a rather large percentage of this population that is ignorant, gullible and easily manipulated by the internet.

And, this works for improvement of the P&L. As long as the hits are there, the advertising revenue good, the payback good, the content starts to matter little. What counts is bottom line profitability, not good journalism, not the truth. Hence, we have fertile ground for the republicans to utilize their lies and manipulative behavior to work the masses of ignorant and gullible people.

Frankly, IMO, the MSM does an extremely poor job of policing itself. Only money and profitability count in USA, Inc.

6. Are these the same ReTHUGS and Teabaggers who
scream non-stop about their first amendment rights?
In the name of perpetual power, these people would destroy the constitution without batting an eyelid.

17. Most certainly!
That "freedom" they scream about is just the freedom to deny the voice and rights of others.

19. How is this a 1st Amendment issue? I see no government involvement
at all. Digg is a private organization and thus not subject to the 1st Amendment. By that same logic DU would "destroy the constitution without batting an eyelid" as content is restricted here.

18. fascists
from the article, "What they fail to understand is that there was never a conspiracy to censor their content, it was the greater Digg community that did that because their articles are usually unprofessional, fact-challenged fantasies that nobody wants to read. World Net Daily, Fox “News”, Michelle Malkin, newsmax, townhall, newsbusters, redstate, and the various conservative Examiner authors on DP have very little to offer in a rational discussion, and read like what they are: propaganda."

It is apparent they reach into any and all newspapers sites I did running wars with conservatives at the Rocky Mountain News and the Denver Post... until I pointed out how all the (other) users were just as far right as they could be.

using the phrase "Reality has a Liberal bias" instantly gets one targeted.

20. I actually have trouble believing this. I've been a regular "Digger" for about 2 years...
and I don't think I've ever seen a "conservative" news story or issue ever make the front page in all that time, unless the item in question was making fun of a conservative story or issue. As far as I could see, I was always in good company because Digg's userbase is very liberal.
