1. The sooner it reaches the surface
the sooner it evaporates into CO2 and H2O. it must surely follow that the more that can be seen the better.

2. Also remember there is a substantial amount of oil coming from other wells
and seeps. At about 1/4 of the rate (overall) of the DH well, if I recall correctly. So there will be oil on the surface in many places.
