Family Values, Tea Party Style
MINNEAPOLIS - The FOX 9 investigators took a deeper look inside a case that has prosecutors and many people in the community outraged. James Fall is charged with having a sexual relationship with his niece over several years, starting when the girl was just nine years old. Now, there are also allegations of abuse, power and even a mysterious death.

On websites, Fall identifies himself as an activist and organizer in Minnesota’s Tea Party movement, calling himself a conservative Christian. But his family and police say the home held sinister secrets. Sexual abuse cloaked in scripture and fear masquerading as faith.

It began a decade ago, when Fall and his wife, Rosemary, took in his 9-year-old niece and two nephews, ages 6 and 10. Their father, Phillip, had mysteriously died. Their mother, Nancy, Fall's sister, was mentally ill and unable to care for the children.

Police say the sexual abuse began when the new family went on vacation to Yellowstone. Police say he coerces her into a sexual relationship by telling her she's his wife, and that's its God's will. He goes on to say that if she does not wish to participate in their relationship, then he's going to kick her and the siblings out of the house.

By the time she turned 12, Fall is allegedly alternating sleeping with his wife, Rosemary, and his niece.

8. If he was abusing her
she may have been just as helpless to intervene as the children. I know it shouldn't be that way, but it is that way. Prolonged abuse, especially emotional and psychological abuse, can cause great damage to its victims.

13. While I appreciate your compassion for victims of abuse, I disagree with your overall point.

The woman in question should have intervened for the child, even if she didn't help herself.

4. Disgusting. The comments are so telling:

This was the worst representation of Christianity in a news report I have ever heard! I am thoroughly disgusted. Tom Lyden you failed to complete your report by allowing an Evangelical Conservative Christian to rebut everything this man claimed the Bible says. Christianity and the Bible was misrepresented, misinterpreted and portrayed in a slanderous way. I believe an apology is in order.

And how is it in any way important that he is involved in the Tea Party and calls himself a conservative Christian? Is this something that we can expect in every story now - you are going to list the religion and political affiliations of all criminals? (or only when it is a conservative?).
......

Neither gave a single thought to the victims or the heinous actions committed whatsoever. No, these 2 took the time to comment to this story solely to defend the honor of their affiliations - in typical self-centered, unenlightened right wing form.

6. That is such a common response. I've noticed it for years.
I've written several posts in other forums about my personal experience with health care. And conservative Christians displayed zero empathy or compassion for the subjects in the story and instead just tried to protect their conservative beliefs. Everyone else but conservatives wrote responses filled with expressions of sympathy and displayed compassion, but not one christian conservative did.

I'm glad you pointed that out because it's very revealing about how they think, and they seem to not be able to feel anything toward their fellow man.

15. Yes, they go ballistic when an evil person is named as a Christian, but don't care
if news reports point out if someone is Jewish, Muslim, atheist, Buddhist, whatever, or what their race is when they commit a crime.

But if it's pointed that a person is a Christian or white, then it's oppression and "that damn liberal media again!"

I was listening to a "Christian" radio station about the time that Christian militia was nailed in Michigan a few months ago. The asshole idiot on the radio was going on and on about how the media keeps calling them a Christian militia and that they have nothing to do with Christianity (which, clearly, they don't - but that's beside the point), that the media should stop calling them that, and so on.

And the whole time I'm shouting at the radio "they keep reporting it's a CHRISTIAN militia because every piece of information that group put out, including their website, has in great big fucking letters that they are a CHRISTIAN MILITIA."

Assholes.

of the uncle.

I'd be looking into why his sister's "mentally ill", too. I wonder what went on in their childhood?

17. This has nothing to do with the Tea Party at all...
It's a disingenuous title.

Abuse like this has nothing to do with party affiliation. A bastard manipulated and abused his family.

Judging from the comments in this thread he represents progressive values.

Or not.

I think I'll just your explanation.

21. Disingenuous?
Where's the lie?

I bet you also feel that it should not be mentioned that a person is a priest when he is busted for child molesting.

And I'm sure you consider it irrelevant that recent studies show that far-right, hyperreligious types are more likely to be child molesters than non-religious people.

23. Yes, but if child abuser also describes himself as a progressive
does that mean he represents progressive values when he abuses children?

I don't think so. He would be roundly condemned here and I'll hazard a guess conservatives think pretty dimly of child abusers as well.

24. From the Moonie Times, of all places...
http://www.nowpublic.com/world/growing-list-republican-politician-child-molesters-update-3-religion-sex-crime

"This is a collection of links to more than 70 different Republican child molester news stories. I couldn't find similar sites documenting Democrat child molesting, but if you post links in the comments documenting a comparable number, I'll be glad to update the title to "Politician" Child Molesters."

My point would be that far-right religiopolitical people have an endemic problem with child sexual abuse.
