It rings so true.

And here's what I got from the movie:

We're all prejudiced in our own ways. It's how we deal with it that distinguishes us. Do we even acknowledge our own racist tendencies?

The teabaggers don't, and loudly deny they are racists, even while doing and saying other extremely racist and offensive things.

I acknowledge I have some race prejudice within me. Part of it is my generation, where I was raised, my family of origin. I acknowledge it's there, and I know it isn't a good thing. I try every day not to let its presence affect how I deal with people. Sometimes I fail, but more frequently I think I suceed.

It is the knowledge, the admission, and the effort that (largely and usually, but not always) separates liberals from conservatives. After all, if you don't admit a problem even exists, how the hell are you even going to approach fixing it?

1. Right on the Money.
I come from a multi-generational South Side Chicago Irish Catholic family. My parents have friends of other ethnicities and generally judge people at face value. However, there are still instances where they are racist/prejudiced.

When my grandfather used the n word in front of my sister, my mom told him to please not use that word, as she doesn't want her children to be exposed to that. My grandfather, who was a very easygoing man, never used a racial slur in front of my sister again. I think that ever generation becomes a little less racist/prejudiced than the last one.

I also think that being in Chicago, where there is a crap-ton of inner-city crime hasn't helped certain people from not attributing Afro-Americans to bad things. Does that make sense?

To say I'm not 100% free of prejudice and racism would be a lie; I have to fight down those thoughts frequently. Case in point--when the whole Kanye West interrupting Taylor Swift at the Video Music Awards happened last year, a friend of mine said that she really wanted to call him the n-word. This person is Filipino, so I was taken aback by her statement. However, I know she is a pretty big Taylor Swift fan. Anyways, I didn't bring any of this up with her. My only thought on it was that it had nothing to do with Kanyes' color but everything to do with him having an extremely inflated ego.

4. I'd like to know why you thought that.
I'm not flame-baiting here, I'd honestly like to know.

5. I thought the plot was contrived...
the theme was like clubbing the viewer over the head and lacked nuance. I guess I like my movies a bit more subtle with better characters. This just didn't do much for me.
