He seems to be the most "presentable" and least insane Republican that I think they can offer up right now. However, I suspect that, privately, they realize that they are (likely) NOT going to win in 2012, so they'll want to save any "big guns" for 2016.

I know that a lot of people think Palin will undoubtedly run in 2012 but I actually don't see her running for ANYTHING on a national level. Being a public servant is hard work for (relatively) little pay. As long as she's getting mileage and lots of $$$ from her appearances, books, tweets, etc., she won't want to get off that *gravy train*. Besides, how is she going to make the case that she can manage at least 4 years as POTUS when she couldn't manage the stress and headaches of being Governor of Alaska for a single 4-year team????!!!

Newt???? Really????? He's damaged goods despite all of the free publicity that the corporate mediawhores continue to (inexplicably) give him. His "schtick" might still work well in the South and other areas where conservatives are popular but he couldn't get enough votes to win nationally. Besides, he's way too polarizing.

Jeb??? Bush-blues still ever-present. He will probably need to wait until 2016 or beyond if he ever wants to seriously pursue the Presidency IMHO.

Whether he wins the primary, I don't know, but I think he'll run. I also see Cuccinelli from VA making an attempt either in 2012 or 2016 (of course, I'm also assuming that Obama will be reelected).

I think the likelihood of the GOP letting Palin anywhere near the nomination is almost nil. For starters, I doubt she wants it, since she's making a ton off speaking fees, and secondly, the GOP knows deep down that even she is too batshit insane to try and woo anything but the absolute bottom of the barrel on the right.

namely the Republican governor of his own commonwealth loathes him and is so frustrated by his inability to not say crazy shit or not take extremist positions that he's quietly soliciting for something he can use to urge him to "want to spend more time with (his) family." (Cooch to my understanding has returned that favor.) McDonnell wants to position himself as a viable appealing moderate for a Presidential run. Ever seen What About Bob? Cooch is like Bob to McDonnell's Dr. Marvin.

It's pretty bad when your own teammate thinks you're a problematic dick and is willing to play Caiaphas to get rid of you. It makes me think he's got no upward mobility as the "powers-that-be" are already dealing with one egotist who has gotten too big to be cute anymore and won't stop kicking the apple cart in Palin.

Someone who wasn't part of the Bush administration, isn't a member of Congress, and who can pretend they had nothing to do with the Republican disasters of the last decade. That's part of the appeal with Romney and Palin, but I doubt it will be either of them. Palin is too discredited and many GOP primary voters still won't support a Mormon.

Especially when they see the damage done by the looney teabaggers in 2010 and the RETHUGS who pandered to them (think Gingrich), I'm betting they will try hard to get Jebbie in.
