Following the typical Prop H8 Bigot Script Tony Perkins trots all the old saws - The Judge is openly Gay (So I guess you can't trust an Emotional Old Queen to make a decision fairly?) - he ignored all of the "social science" on the issue (none of which was produced by actual scientists) - he ignored the will of the people in 30 states (which has exactly what bearing on the law and Constitution?)

Boies sliced him into guilian fries in seconds:

Proposition 8 fails to advance any rational basis in singling out gay men and lesbians for denial of a marriage license. Indeed the evidence shows Proposition 8 does nothing more than enshrine in the California constitution the notion that opposite sex couples are superior to same sex couples.

They deliberately lie and bear false witness against their neighbors. There will be a special place in hell for these religious fanatics who lie, deceive and are consumed by hatred and bigotry. Boies basically called that right wing fake Christian a liar.

I'd love to see televised trials and see people have to state their claims under oath and answer to peer-reviewed studies, to historical documents...

that would be the end of literalism in this nation for any but the most brain dead - not to say there wouldn't be a lot of them, still.

but honestly, the only way to fight religious lies is to attack them with the truth.

those people on DU who rail about attacks on religion seem to forget the horrific damage certain religions do for the lives of EVERYONE - even those who do not subscribe to their beliefs. It is far more offensive to make laws that discriminate on the basis of religious lies - that's one way the south was able to keep segregation going for years and years.

And because of the pernicious influence of religious stupidity, Americans who care about this nation have to call out the liars who are the religious right wing in this nation.
