Less complaining, more helping
Edited on Sun Aug-08-10 09:36 PM by SoxFan
"In circumstances more difficult than those most presidents face, the Obama administration and Congress have built a remarkably good record. Eighteen months ago they inherited an economy in free fall, losing 700,000 jobs a month. They made correct and courageous decisions on financial system rescue and stimulus, which prevented a crisis from evolving into a 1930s-style disaster with no exit. And they followed up with a remarkable legislative record -- not in health alone but in education, trade adjustment, financial services reform, and more."

<snip>

"To this list we could add: a science and competitiveness act investing $31 billion in scientific research and math/science education; 2 million acres of wilderness designations; tobacco regulation; consumer protection for credit card users; a steadily progressing withdrawal from Iraq; an Iran sanctions bill that has pushed a reluctant U.N. Security Council to act; revival of pay-as-you-go budgeting rules; and more.

There's no doubt the country needs more. We would like to see energy and climate-change legislation that puts a price on carbon; redistricting reform that bans the gerrymander; easier high-skilled immigration; and more engagement on trade policy to get the export markets that will help revive private-sector-led growth and the job creation the country needs most.

But the record is already very strong. Not in 20 years* can we find a comparable legislative record. And they have done it while battling an inherited economic disaster worse than any in decades. Not an easy job, and their critics need to remember that. So, as the midterms approach: Less of the complaining, more of the helping."

3. Wow- what a load of shite
Failed health care and financial legislation that doesn't solve the any of the core problems- a half measure stimulus that credible economists knew wouldn't deal effectively with unemployment and now the complete ascendency of the Rubintes *the very folks who got it wrong and contributed to (if not caused) the meltdown in the first place.

Heck a job.

Once in a lifetime opportunity squandered by incessant pandering to the corporate right.

8. Goes further than that
Thanks to the right wing of the party, Democrats now own unaffordable health care and the next financial meltdown (not to mention having coopted drill baby spill from the Republicans).

9. I know. But I do think if we put a program out there that began to
employ people and get some demand going it would make such a huge difference in people's lives - and I would much rather own that than any record of past achievements.

We need to shut off the RW nagging about the deficit and start talking about investing in our neighbors, in our country. If their short-term strategies are successful we are going to save ourselves into a second-rate country. Britain, who used to be the ruler of the world, showed us how, and I am sure we are as capable as they were.

Because we are in a global society I think there is zero possibility that we could use tariffs to stop it, but a lot of that money will simply flow to China, and we have to find a way to stem that. We can only make things better here by moving ourselves into the 21st century.

But this posture of talking about past achievements and not talking creating and talking about jobs is a recipe for failure.

6. Not on DU, no, sir! Thank you, SoxFan, for trying, but the
people who just like to complain are out in force. They are welcome to complain, but when they can't acknowledge anything good about the current admin, that tells me loads.

I think their condition is chronic, so no worries. Nothing would make them happy.

And I am also unemployed, so that 'shite' doesn't fly. If I didn't think it would get better, or didn't think this admin wasn't trying, I might have a different opinion. But this ain't magic and I never expected the economic situation to improve dramatically once we had a new president.

Ye of little faith-I got bucketsful, so there!

Keep griping. I just hope you acknowledge when we see a turnaround, and if you don't like my optimism, I don't care.

10. Yeah-- Obama and the rest of the Democrats in DC didn't do exactly...
what I wanted the way I wanted them to do it, so they are all useless dregs.

Throw 'em all out and get...

14. What it should tell you is that the DLC is incredibly stupid
to use list of accomplishments as a way to say "shut up" yet again.

What the hell kind of party building is that? Only second to "I don't care".

Go, team! I mean, Shut up and I don't care!

lol

12. Helping out (in the kitchen)
Having looked at the menu and seen that "gnawed over chicken bone and grapefruit peels" is the Democrats' blue plate special, and having also seen that "steaming bowl of horseshit with toadstool sauce" is the Repubs' red plate special, yes, I would like to do more than sit on the side and complain, I would like to help.

I would like a big helping of "Withdrawal a la Kucinich" with a side of "Volcker's Rules". Maybe break out a bottle of that "Public Option" that just wasn't ready to serve last year. Yes, the cooks that are in the kitchen now sure are making a mess out of things, and they are clueless as to how bad it is going to turn out.

16. What a shock! The DLC still trying to triangulate the sell outs and cave-ins into "victories".
And, of course, tell the left to shut up and drink the kool-aid.

19. LOL! "easier high skilled immigration" i.e. H1Bs taking away American jobs, in fact
this press release is like giant fuck you to American workers. The DLC only sees rich people. This PR piece of shit is targeted to Fortune 500.

When they are asking for help, they are not asking it of us "little" people. They follow the money and this is a direct appeal to Fortune 500,

They are saying - hey, Fortune 500 - look at how much shit we gave you. Now, how about a little love our way?

The DLC collective is a proving to be a nasty piece of work, out of phase with their free market horse shit. Imune to the wall street disaster, savings and loan disaster, NAFTA disaster, enron disaster.

The best you can say about is their faith in the global free market is it operates on a religious faith. Little evidence exists to show that there market based incentives are improving quality of life in USA. On the contrary, the MBAs at DLC are fucking everything up. Cap and trade will be another cluster fuck. JUST BAN THE FUCKING POLLUTION, SHUT DOWN THE BANKS, STOP OFF SHORE DRILLING. ENOUGH WITH THE GODDAMN BAILOUTS AND INCENTIVES.

Jesus - to borrow a phrase from Rahm Emanuel, campaign on a promise of taking away more American jobs? That isn't fucking retarded, it's fucking brilliant (if you are a souless corporate whore on your knees in front of fortune 500 ).

21. Primary sources are always a good thing to have read. It makes sense to know ...
... what people actually say about themselves, their goals, and so on. Then you can counter from a position of knowledge rather than ignorance.

Shooting the messenger is counterproductive.

Thanks for posting this, SoxFan.
