I voted for Lamont's opponent in the CT primary for governor today.

Was pretty much undecided but leaning Malloy and then yesterday the NYT had an article that did it for me. Lamont is now saying he didn't want to be a U.S. Senator anyway (speaking of his 06 campaign against Lieberman). Well, excuse me, I devoted not a few hours for weeks to his campaign, making phone calls and going door to door in my neighborhood to get signatures so he could get on the ballot for the primary. That statement just plain irritated me.

Then his taking a stand against mandatory sick leave because he didn't want to put additional burdens on small businesses just ticked me off. Malloy, who has strong union support, supports it.

If Lamont wins the primary, however, (and I think he will) I will vote for him in the general. The thought of Tom Foley as governor just scares me. And I'll work for Lamont as a volunteer again.

I've never voted for a Republican for anything except maybe county coroner. (For which there was no Democratic candidate, naturally.)

I have a few times withheld my vote from a certain Dem for something they'd said or done, or pledged to withhold it from someone if they won a primary. (Kathleen Rice, running for NY Attorney General, is such an example.) However, I wouldn't do even that in a competitive election.

I expect one thing out of my elected Democrats: progress. Not perfection, just progress. I'm not happy about the individual insurance mandate, but I am happy overall with the fact that we've done more to fix healthcare in this country in the last 6 months than we had in probably 40 years before that. I'd love to see a more aggressive infrastructure program particularly based on high speed rail, but I'm glad that we actually have an effort to fix the economy instead of trying to drive it deeper into the hole.

I think his sick leave stand is bad even from a business point of view, but I hope he will do good things for the ordinary people of the state and be a strong supporter of public schools...even tho his own kids went to Greenwich Country Day...

They'd both make decent candidates. When it came to those two, it didn't really matter to me who won. Just trying to split the ticket I guess, stir things up a bit...LOL.

What a disappointment Lamont turned out to be, though he of course is a better choice than that creep Foley.

The low voter turnout is supposed to favor Malloy. We will see.

13. Not that I have a dog in this fight, but I get a lot of CT news and...

it seems to me that if Lamont was a Republican we'd call him just another millionaire making the noises he thinks we want to hear to win. Making a lot of money out of a cable company isn't the same as running a state with a lot of red in its balance sheet. And, in that Senate cockup I think a lot of people were so looking forward to dumping Lieberman that they didn't look too closely at Lamont. At least that McMahon person is showing her real spots while she tries to buy the election.

Heard Malloy and Lamont being interviewed, and Malloy seems to have his head screwed on a little tighter-- having been mayor of Stamford could do that.

16. Actually, before he ran in 06 I had known who Ned Lamont was.

I worked for Planned Parenthood of CT as a major gifts officer and Ned and Annie were the first ones to offer their home as our first Greenwich House Party (which in Greenwich doesn't mean sandwiches and beer on the back deck...as you can imagine). They were among our strongest supporters and helped us get others on board through their personal solicitation.

But he failed to impress me when he went off to Maine on vacation after the primary, instead of hunkering down to a heavy campaign schedule. And what I was hearing from folks who didn't know him very well was that they regarded him as a rich guy from Greenwich who was kind of playing with politics...a charge I dismissed at the time but now that I look back I can see that was part of the picture. He had a cushy home and life in Greenwich to fall back on.

I think Malloy knows how to work government and in a good way. The danger is, of course, cronyism. We see it here in New Haven with our mayor, John DeStefano (don't get me started!). But I hope not with Malloy...

He's not the same Lamont this year... obviously... and I don't care who wins the primary ( don't live in CT either, but crossed state lines to help Lamont vs. Lieberman) but he does get credit for being willing to take on Lieberman.

Honestly, I don't really know why he wants to be governor. This is a terrible time to be one, IMHO. You can't print money and you can't run deficits and you are bound to get a lot of people mad at you. Unless you are willing to take bold moves and risk being a one term gov. That happened with Weicker and we got YEARS of John Rowland, a repub. and a thief. Saw that movie...
