Notwithstanding opposition from self-described Democrats who have fundamental differences with particular policies and initiatives, our Democratic party is still the most effective vehicle for advancing our progressive agenda through our political system into action or law.

The GOP has become so marginalized by their extreme right wing, that almost anyone qualifies as a democrat. Which is why you can have conservatives arguing with progressives, and they are both democrats.

Give a voter a choice between a Republican and a Democrat who acts like a republican, and they will choose the real republican.

What is the difference between losing to a republican and winning with a democrat who votes republican?

I do understand opposing someone because of their support (or lack of) for singular issues, like rights or needs. However, the ideal of our party is to organize around those issues we manage to agree on, and, hopefully work toward the resolution of the rest. That's the rationale for supporting advancing candidates under our Democratic banner who we may well disagree with on some issues.
