Pleads not guilty today. Thankfully this loser will probably be going to prison for life. The man accused of battling California Highway Patrol officers in a gunfight on Interstate 580 last month entered a not guilty plea today in a downtown Oakland courtroom.
The charges against Byron Williams, 45, of Groveland, stem from a 12-minute gunbattle with officers late July 17 that kept the East Bay highway closed for most of the next day.
Williams is charged with four counts of attempted murder against a peace officer, three felony counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm and one count of being in possession of ammunition.
The unemployed carpenter also is charged with numerous gun enhancements and faces life in prison without the possibility of parole because the shootout with the CHP is considered Williams' third strike under the state's Three Strikes Law.

Oakland police said Williams told them he did not want to get arrested and was willing to kill officers to escape. Williams also told police, according to a probable cause statement, that he wanted to "start a revolution" by killing leaders of the two liberal organizations. (ACLU & Tides(who Beck rails on))
