Poll question: Who is the most liberal major candidate or president of the past 11 years?

I'm defining liberal based on pro-labor, pro-environment, pro-education, pro-equal rights, pro-constitution, pro-women, and anti-war beliefs.

1. Dennis Kucinich

Nader had more of a national campaign than Kucinich did and DK left the campaign fairly early.

6. To be honest?

Of anyone who holds federal or state-wide office, Bernie Sanders or Dennis Kucinich. I'd give the edge to Sanders because Kucinich had issues with abortion rights in the past.

My issue with Nader has nothing to do with 2000 or with Al Gore. There are two areas where Democrats are just as much to blame as Republicans. One is the War on Drugs, and the other is America's broken electoral system. If prominent Democratic politicians had made any effort to fix issues with ballot access, first-past-the-post, and the Electoral College, attacking Nader from this angle would have some credibility.

As for Nader, his past relationship with the Green Party, which receives money from prominent Republicans, and Schiavo are both substantial issues to me.

7. I have over 3 decades of support for DK, but, I supported him in spite of his prolife and

anti flag-burning positions and a few other matters where he voted with Republicans because I always felt in his heart he was more liberal. The last 6 years he has come very close to being that liberal lawmaker I always maintained was inside of him.

She was twice the candidate that the rest of those clowns were.

10. of presidential nominees, easily John Kerry

of any who had any real chance of becoming the nominee (sorry, that leaves out DK), I still think Kerry. Some here would argue for Dean, but it probably depends how you define 'liberal'. Kerry has a long track record of supporting foundational liberal issues such as clean elections and environmental issues. Gore was also very good on environment (obviously) but I think he is less liberal in other areas.

If you discount 3rd party candidates as "not major," it would be John Kerry.
