Ginsburg only had 3 people vote against her and Breyer only had 9 vote against him. What's happened since then to cause all of this knee-jerk reaction if the person nominating is from another party?

1. Well, aside from the fact that the other party has turned to complete... |
|
obstructionist fanaticism, I think they're also worried that Obama may be around long enough to nominate a replacement for Justice Kennedy.
That would be a biggie.
I'm not sure they are aware of this themselves... but i think this prospect gnaws at them.

2. That shows how much worse the atmosphere is that Obama has to work with in the Senate. |
|
It is kind of amazing how much worse it is then even when Clinton was there.
Remember, Fox News didn't even show up until 1996.

to stop the obstructionism? It isn't completely unheard of. In the 89th Congress (1965-1967) Democrats had a 68-32 majority in the senate. That wasn't all that long ago, as many people on here were alive then.

4. The partisan divide than has torn through this country |
|
has reached the US Senate. Clearly, that's been the case for the last several nominations, and we can trace it back to Bork, if we want to.
