Suspected serial killer (Mich, OH, VA) arrested in Atlanta trying to board flight to Tel Aviv
from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

A suspect in a series of stabbing deaths in three states was arrested Wednesday night at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport as he was about to board a flight, Atlanta police said.

Details of the arrest, nor the man's name, were not immediately known. However, a law-enforcement source told the Washington Post that the man was about to board a flight for Tel Aviv.

APD was one of several law-enforcement agencies that cooperated on the arrest at 9:45 p.m.

"He was definitely trying to leave on a flight from Hartsfield," spokesman Carlos Campos said. "We're strictly holding him for Michigan authorities."

Police in Michigan said there will be a 2 p.m. news conference at the Flint Township Police Department. ........(more)

14. Ummm....
"suspected in attacks which took place in Michigan" is logically different from "he is from Michigan."

Try to be more precise with your choice of words.

You're still upset over some earlier imagined slight, I guess? It must be tough, being one of the third-rung DU posters--one who people remember to avoid without bothering to remember why. :hi:

I haven't been to many airports but ATL is the only one where I've been to where they got dogs.

On edit-ATL may be one of the few airports where you can leave and enter the country so he may not have had a choice when it comes to trying to leave the country.

10. Detroit is a big international hub
I know you can fly Detroit->Tokyo, Detroit->Amsterdam, etc etc.... Funny that he'd pick Atlanta, but then again, there's probably not too many places where you can fly direct to Tel Aviv

24. all airports have dogs
Edited on Thu Aug-12-10 04:14 PM by pitohui
i can't think of an airport that DOESN'T have dogs

new orleans (MSY) hardly has an international flight anymore, they had to pay a mexican airline to fly in and out so they could keep their international airport status, and THEY have dogs

all airports have dogs, you may not have noticed them...but they're there

not sure of the relevance of dogs to the discussion, most dogs are either bomb, narcotics, or ag dogs, they're not sniffing around for knife-wielding crazies, that's the job of human law enforcement

there is not a thing special abt ATL's security, good or bad, they are absolutely average, sounds to me like it was a matter of chance that they caught up with him at this particular airport

21. Ma'an News is identifying him as a "Palestinian citizen of Israel"
Here is their headline:

"US arrests suspected Palestinian serial killer"

And the first two paragraphs:

FLINT, Mich. (Ma'an) -- Police in the United States have a Palestinian citizen of Israel in custody in connection with a string of stabbings that left as many as five dead, The Detroit Free Press newspaper reported Thursday.

US officials suspect Elias Abuelazam, 33, is responsible for stabbing attacks across three states that left some 20 people injured.
