Name Names
"I have in my hand a list of 38 officials in the State Department who say Obama is exactly like Bush..."

The point of McCarthyism was to smear invisible, unarmed somebodies and let the audience fill in the blank using whatever petty prejudices they had.

Who was Robert Gibbs talking about?

Either name some fucking names or stop defending him.

"Those who think that..." "Certain elements..." "The fringe..."

WHO?

A lot of people have spoken with great "authority" in stating that they know who Gibbs was talking about and that he wasn't talking about the broad left.

Well, if anyone knows who Gibbs was talking about, please share. We are all dying to know.

2. As I pointed out on another thread, in ensuing conversations
he never once corrected a reporter for using the term "criticism from the left" by narrowing the field.

5. Correct. I watched the briefing yesterday and when he was asked
who he meant, he made a bad joke about leaving the list in his office.

I think he was deliberately vague because he was trying to associate 'the left' with all those who want crazy things like real healthcare instead of mandatory insurance. He seemed to be widening the field rather than narrowing it, IMO.

4. We have been lectured at length about who he wasn't talking about
Edited on Thu Aug-12-10 02:05 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
He wasn't talking about Krugman, Olbermann, Maddow, Kos, my mom or anyone else a given poster might like.

Oh no... he was talking about "them." A "they" who cannot be defended because we don't know the specific charges or even the identity of the accused.

You know... those bad people that nobody likes.

It is so fucking BUSH it makes me sick. You know, those folks who hate America. Those folks who want to throw Osama Bin Laden a Party. Those folks who do not care about keeping America safe.

You know... those bad people that nobody likes.

And yes, I did just say the WH is "like Bush" in a particular, narrow way. Both administrations had press secretaries who sometimes said shit that sure sounded like a broad-brush denigration of people with some perfectly reasonable views I happened to hold, like opposing torture or favoring single-payer.

Note that I did not say that I wish Bush was still President or that Obama has never done anything worthwhile or that Obama and Bush are identical.

6. You can start with FDL and Huffington Post
then on to Commondreams and then hit plenty of other sites (including many right here on DU)

10. Those are great sites! And of course you hate them with a passion.
:eyes:

Not too long ago those three sites were loved by the 99.9% of DUers. Disgusting how DU has changed for the worse.

What's next, are you gonna cheer on freeperville's favorite sources? :puke:

14. Yes we certainly learned more about those sites
once the Dems got back in power. It's so easy to unite in opposition, it's a lot more telling when it comes to actually supporting something.

As for freeperville's favorites, I suspect all of them are making that list already. After I am sure it fills their dark hearts with glee to see those sites undermine the President and the Democrats with their over the top, unreasonable and unfounded criticism. That's why Gibbs had no choice but to call them out.

20. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident
Of course it's important to note that the inverse is certainly not true- not all ideas that are ridiculed are the truth.

Edited on Thu Aug-12-10 02:30 PM by Gold Metal Flake
I don't need spokesmen speaking for Obama's spokesman. He can speak for himself. But will he? Did he? Where is his list that he created and circulated?

9. The Pentagon comment was about Kucinich. When a reporter
in the briefing asked who had ever suggested eliminating the Pentagon, Gibbs said something like "Wasn't it part of a campaign?". The reporter then corrected him and said it was a Dept of Peace that Kucinich had suggested.

The rest of the questions about names were just answered with "I watch too much cable news."

'crazy' and unrealistic, better for his agenda.
