Is the enthusiasm gap being blown out of proportion?

I am not "enthusiastic" about voting in the sense that I'm counting down the seconds until election day and going to be the first person in line come election day.

The reason for this is because the Democrats are already in power and I really don't gain anything if it stays that way.

However, I am certain to vote because I know the Democrats are 1000 times better than the Republicans and the GOP is totally screwed up and does not stand for anything except being in power.

And as time goes on, even fewer reasons to vote Democratic come '12. A lot of my friends and family feel the same way. The disappointment with Congressional Dems and this administration, especially after all the hype that led up to the '08 election, is truly crushing. Nothing turns people off to your party, or voting in general, than to raise a person's hope, then utterly crush it.

I think you should give the Democrats more than 2 years. They are having to deal with the worst economic downturn in 80 years. Most of this was not known during the 2008 election.

However, the "professional left" he was talking about is people like Ed Schultz and Paul Krugman. Obama has an 85% approval rating among liberals. You would not know this if you only listened to certain commentators.

Our opinions (and dollars and hours registering people to vote, knocking on doors, etc.) are no longer needed or wanted.

In 1980 liberals voted for John Andersen and some even voted for Ronald Reagan.

In 1994 democrats stayed home.

In 2000 millions on the left voted for Ralph Nader.

In each of these situations did things improve or get worse for the country?
