Chris Jansing just did an understanding Mormons segment on MSNBC.
Apparently, there is some sort of an ad campaign by them to soft sell their religion now.

1. I've seen their ads
"I'm John, I love motorcycles and blah blah blah.....

and I'm a Mormon."

6. Nailed it in one.
This is the advance propaganda.

"We're not bat-shit crazy, we're just like you!"

3. Never a mention of multiple wives, magic underwear, or bicycling in neckties
Wow it's so "cool" to be a Mormon, according to the TV.

9. you didn't mention their planet Kolob
the earth was created near Kolob over a period of 6000 years (six "days" in Kolob time), and then flung to its present solar system after the fall of Adam.

That at the end times, the earth will be plucked from the solar system and returned to its original orbit near Kolob

This is from their Joseph Smith writings.

10. that sounds whacky to lots of people
but to me, so does any story about some sky guy or virgin birth or resurrection or "creation" of the planet - in a couple days or on the back of a turtle
other than some of the rituals and details, the mormon cult isn't any different to me than any other religion/cult I have ever read about

4. There's been one in town that's writing occasional apologetic pieces that they're Christian
the dude often makes a good case, except, of course, that he leaves out all the shit that isn't in accordance with traditional Christianity, like believing the trinity are three entirely separate gods and a whole bunch of other stuff that, in the realm of historical Christianity, would be considered heresy (and would cause even a great many of Christian traditions that are otherwise hostile to each other to come to the table and go "Oh, yeah - that's totally heretical. We agree on that. That's easy.")

14. For years they have been working to portray themselves as main-
stream Christians and you are correct most of the traditional churches will not accept them into the fold.

So is Glenn Beck. He and his family converted some time in the late 1990's.

17. the other day, there were two of the little 18-year old "missionaries" with their VERY large name
badges, reading "ELDER" and whatever their names were. I wanted to ask them if they had borrowed the badges from their grandfathers, or if they honestly expected anyone not mormon to take them seriously.
