More 787 Problems, Possible New Delivery Delay....Outsourcing Issues

SEATTLE -- Problems with Boeing's new Dreamliner are multiplying, and our Aviation Analyst Scott Hamilton says quality control from the company's international suppliers appears to be getting worse.

Hamilton broke the news Friday in his blog, Leeham News and Comment.

Boeing has expanded inspections on the horizontal stabilizers.

Boeing is looking at new issues in the parts made by its Italian supplier Alenia.

the outsourcing gold rush has met its limit.
Yes - I can get stuck with an outsourced Flair pen that does not have enough ink to finish one page; I will be stuck with a laundry basket that explodes into smithereens when it is picked up with laundry in it; I will be stuck with socks that blow out the toe after 2 months and undies that have seams going up the front and back instead of the sides. That is the crapification of America.

But fly in an outsourced plane that went to the lowest bidder - HELL NO.

3. Many parts are outsourced...it's how the industry works

The aircraft still has to meet design and certification requirements.

4. Yes I know

some parts came in from China that were supposed to have electrical components but they were empty. (that is just one example)
Sorry - my Dad was a Boeing engineer from the days when they still made furniture downstairs. Their ethic was triple backup and everyone was dead serious about the responsibility of their jobs.
So Boeing is now producing crap to save money just like every other industry.
I am glad he is not here to see this mess.

5. They won't quit

until they outsource every outsourceable job.

I guess the politician won't try to get these jobs back, unless we call him incessantly and plead, because he can't do it by himself there's too much heavy lifting involved and he/they are exhausted.
