ExaminerRussia's state media reported that the image showed 368 hot spots across Russia as of Saturday as well as massive smoke cloud formations blanketing the entire country. Carbon monoxide levels in Moscow were more than six times the purported allowable concentration.
A scorching heat wave that begain in mid-June combined with the worst drought in over 40 yeasrs has made the countryside particularly susceptible to wildfires.
The fires alone have killed over 50 people but the heatwave death rate reached 700 people per day in Moscow earlier in the week. Temperatures rose to the high 90s in a northern region not suited to handle that type of heat.
