A Chicago soldier reported to have died from injuries he sustained in Afghanistan in June is alive, family members say.
The wife of Sgt. 1st Class Edgar N. Roberts reportedly told his father that he died in a Maryland military hospital from injuries he received from a roadside bomb, the Southtown Star said Friday.
Notified of the death Tuesday, his three sisters were mourning their loss when one of them received a telephone call from a friend who worked at the National Naval Medical Center asking her to call and confirm her brother's death.
Robyn Anderson made the call and discovered her brother wasn't dead, but was still being treated in the center's intensive care unit, the paper said.
Anderson said she was "livid" when she found out her brother wasn't dead and blames her brother's wife for the mix-up. Roberts' wife, Jannett Roberts, did not return calls, the paper said.
