Durbin Has Stomach Tumor Removed

Senate Majority Whip Durbin had a small tumor removed from his stomach this morning and is recovering at the University of Chicago Medical Center, his office said. The gastrointestinal stromal tumor was discovered several weeks ago during a routine checkup and subsequent exams showed there was no cancer present, said Joe Shoemaker, spokesman for the Illinois Democrat. Surgeons performed "a minimally invasive procedure" known as a laparoscopy and no further treatment is expected to be needed, he said. Durbin, 65, is expected to resume a full schedule by next week, Shoemaker said.

I heard about his stomach tumor last week, but not whether it was benign or malignant. Glad to hear it's not cancerous.
