Businesses offering discounts to Tea Party members

Potentially alienating half your client base is probably not the smartest move.

Donald Hutchinson, a businessman and Tea Party supporter, calls his initiative the Tea Party Exchange Inc.

Tea Party supporters who obtain a TPX-Great American card — similar to a customer-loyalty card consumers can attach to key rings — and show it at a participating business can get a discount on the company’s services. The local merchant then gives 5 percent of the sale revenue to the local Tea party chapter to help fund rallies.

7. I would go as far as putting an ad in the local paper

with the words and images of the Tea Party signs in it and declare these businesses' support of those sentiments (especially the racist ones).

It goes without saying that they'll buy it hook, line, and sinker.

5. I own a small business, and I make it a point not to publicly endorse any candidate.

Candidates of all persuasions stop by my shop often, during campaign season. I will gladly display their informational brochures, since I believe in an informed electorate. But, I will not put their posters on my walls. It is silly, but many folks will not do business with me if I happen to support someone they do not like. This goes for both parties.
