VACAVILLE, Calif. -- Police said a man was arrested and charged with felony child endangerment after losing track of his 3-year-old son in a filthy home.

The Vacaville Police Department said a man called Thursday morning to report his 3-year-old child missing after almost 3 hours of looking for the child on his own.

Police started a full search, including 15 police officers, two K-9 units from the sheriff's department and a California Highway Patrol chopper.

Vacaville police Sgt. Charlie Spruill said the home was "impassable" after initial search which he said always starts in the home. Officers found the boy "sleeping partially covered by old clothes, trash and other items."

2. My parents lost my little brother in a clean home

My brother crawled into a top bunk-bed, covered himself with stuff animals and fell asleep.
He was three. not making excuses for the shape of this man's home ... just sayin' it happens.

He was asleep. Pretty sure that happens with almost all kids, in one form or other.

The home is another issue. Perhaps they considered it a fire trap or otherwise unhealthy for the child.

10. Years ago my neighbors lost their kid

in my closet. He was about 2 years old, always allowed to roam around on his own. I had been in the laundry room and had no idea the boy was even in my house.

He was found a couple hours later, happily playing with my son's toys. Sadly, even that experience didn't cure his parents.

12. I once lost my teenage daughter in a 2 bedroom apartment.

She needed some alone time and I finally found her in the laundry room where she had made a hidey-hole under some wall mounted shelves. Once I found her and determined she was OK, I let her alone.

we are sorting clothes, cleaning closets, rearranging furniture, downsizing, etc.
My bright idea was just to have everyone haul what they didn't want to the hallway and leave the hallway for last.
As of this minute--you could lose a marching band in my hallway...

My wife called and called for him, for hours, inside and out.

He was found sleeping inside a play tent in a corner of the basement.

a cop friend told me they always search the house first because parents become so panicked they do very cursory checks and too quickly decide they've "searched thoroughly" - and that is understandable.
