Muslim fanatics hate our legal, sinful ways(Columbus Dispatch, August 17, 2010)Columnist Cal Thomas wrote, “Muslim fanatics who wish to destroy us are correct in their diagnosis of our moral rot: loss of a fear of God; immodesty, especially among women; and much more” (Forum column, last Tuesday).
Thomas is correct, and I can expound on his reference to “much more.”
The question has been asked since 9/11, “Why do they hate us so?” and I have been answering anyone who addresses the question to me, “Because in the United States, it’s not against the law to sin.”Do you realize that one can break seven of the Ten Commandments without breaking the law? It is illegal to kill, steal and bear false witness (perjury). Anything else goes. Worshipping false gods, taking the Lord’s name in vain, ignoring the Sabbath, ignoring your parents, committing adultery and coveting your neighbor’s goods and his wife do not put you afoul of the law.
That’s why they hate us.

So in Mikey's little world, radical Muslims hate America because we do not have a law against "ignoring your parents"! We also lack legal remedies against those who worship graven images, which is probably what pushed bin Laden over the edge. (Not, say, our troops and bases in Muslim countries, our 110% support for Israel, or our tendency toward anti-Muslim Crusades.)
