Rachel Maddow To Get Cronkite Award

Rachel Maddow will receive an award named after CBS newsman Walter Cronkite for her coverage of religion and politics.

The award, which will be presented at a gala dinner in New York in October, "recognizes individuals who courageously promote democratic values, defend religious freedom and reinvigorate informed civic participation," according to the announcement. Cronkite served as Honorary Chairman of the Interfaith Alliance until his death last year. "Walter Cronkite once told me that no less than the future of our nation was at stake in the work of Interfaith Alliance, and I can think of no two people who contribute more to advancing our mission than Rachel Maddow and Joan Brown Campbell," said Interfaith Alliance President Rev. Dr. C. Welton Gaddy. "Rachel's passionate coverage of the intersection of religion and politics exhibits a strong personal intellect coupled with constitutional sensitivity to the proper boundaries between religion and government."

8. I have and will often say Keith Olbermann will be remembered as the guy

who negotiated the GREAT BROADCASTER Rachel Maddow's first TV contract. And he knows it.

a Nobel Prize as much as anyone. He started the successful liberal broadcasts since the stolen 2004 Bush/Kerry election in Ohio and kept hammering the injustices of the Bush regime when no one else in media dared. He brought in the best journalists in the country to boost his reports and finally Rachel who turned out to be a big star, followed by liberals like Ed Schultz, Lawrence O' Donnell, proving that there is an audience for tv media besides the vast brain dead who watch Faux Noose. He deserves the JFK "Profile in Courage" award at the very least.

I love Rachel...but she is not a great "journalist", IMO. The second I watched her do a week's worth of stories on Scott Brown's pick-up truck, she became a talking head to me. A very good one, though. It was a very heavily news-laden week and she was talking way too much about that. I thought it was petty. Congrats to her on the award!

of Scott Brown's pick up. Now, I do sometimes fall asleep because I'm old and work a farm, but I think I would have noticed a week of stories about a pick up truck.

Anyway, Rachel rocks. She is smart, articulate and does in-depth reporting. She is not afraid of facts like most non-journalist, RepubliCON propagandists on Fox.
