DETROIT — General Motors said Tuesday that it was recalling 243,000 large crossover vehicles to check for a problem that could prevent their rear seat belts from latching safely.
The recall covers the 2009 and 2010 Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook. All but a few thousand were sold in the United States.
Separately, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that Mazda was recalling 215,000 Mazda 3 and Mazda 5 cars from the 2007 to 2009 model years for a steering problem that could lead to a crash.
Mazda started fixing vehicles in Japan for the same problem
about a year ago and told the safety agency it would begin a recall in the United States now even though it believes the defect poses “no unreasonable safety risk.”
