Senator Kerry visits flood-hit Pakistan

US Senator John Kerry was holding talks with Pakistani leaders on Thursday and scheduled to visit areas ravaged by the country's worst floods in 80 years, the US embassy said.

Kerry, who heads the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and co-authored a record 7.5 billion-dollar aid bill for Pakistan, is the first senior US policymaker to visit since the disaster struck, affecting 20 million people.

"Senator Kerry will meet senior civilian officials today and may also be travelling to areas affected by floods," US embassy spokesman Richard Snelsire told AFP.
