France deporting gypsies... anybody else following this?

other places in Eastern Europe.

Eastern Europeans often get a little pissed when, ethnically speaking, the Roma are referred to as Romanians, Bulgarians, or the like.

They are not. They are Roma.

Gypsy is a slur.

Citizens of any EU country are supposed to be able to live in any EU country they choose.

15. Romanians

are entitled to visa free travel to France but do not have a right to work there or receive welfare benefits. France can hold out on that until 2015 when the transition period expires.

but it is a legal grey area as french corporations have been able to relocate in romania just fine, is the EU jurisprudence here, how legal are these 'transition periods' and if they can indeed deport them why are the french offering 300 euros to people to get them to leave? i think france is afraid to enforce their transition period law fearing that eu courts would overturn it if they used it.

per adult to exit the country. Is this a case of blaming a flailing economy on the convenient target of immigrants?

the people must choose to leave france because as romanians or bulgarians they are EU citizens and can live in any EU country they choose.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife Carla Bruni have reportedly banned locals from a popular beach on the French Riviera, according to the Daily Mail UK.

Signs were posted on May 13 reading "No Entry" on the beach frequented by Sarkozy and Bruni, and policemen and cameras have been monitoring the area. Bruni's family has a holiday home nearby, but not their own beach.

normally we have the right to live in any EU nation we choose so long as we are EU citizens which Romanians have been for the past few years. It is the French govt. playing off of peoples racism to gain popularity.

14. As one who has lived in Eastern Europe over 3 years and is very familiar with Roma I will tell you.

This situation is deeper than simple ethnic bias...but that bias is only half of the problem. The real crux of the situation runs much deeper.

There are two parties that need to correct their actions.
