Lady, this isn't how it works. Your failure to understand the constitution is disturbing, but not surprising. The constitution gives us all the right to free speech. That's a great and powerful thing. However, the constitution does not give us immunity from the ramifications of the things we might say. I have the total and unrestricted freedom of speech to walk into my bosses office right now and call him a ball-gobbling ass-spelunker. What the constitution doesn't do is protect me from the fallout from saying something stupid.

Why is it that people can't seem to grasp this very simple principal? Your 2nd amendment right to keep and bear arms does not give you the right to commit crimes with said arms. Your first amendment rights grant you freedom of speech. They do not grand you immunity from the stupid shit you may say. It's all pretty simple, isn't it?

Pretty much the crux of the issue here. Dr. Laura's rights were not suppressed and she was allowed to say what she wanted. The problem she ran into was that in this case, she offened a ton of people while exercising her rights and torpedoed her career.

Palin can't figure out the difference between being allowed to speak freely and having to face the outcome for speaking freely if and saying something horrible.
