1. Its chess
The elites moved their people into position so they can achieve checkmate over the world's governments.

Then they simultaneously obtain IMF "support", and curtail programs for the poor in unison.

17. Yep. All those billion dollar elite meetings at our expense
are to coordinate their 10, 15, 20 year plans just like any corporation does.

Then the boards go out and shop for CEOs and Presidents.

2. Fear.
People are fearful due to the economic climate. Certain people and groups have drummed up those fears, and made certain groups into bogeymen.

The right-wing then comes along with "get tough" talk and the fearful populace votes for them.

At least that's my theory.

8. That is my thought also. People are afraid and want Daddy to tell them everything
will be ok. People are emotional beings who look for things to back up their emotions rather than being intellectual who then develop emotions. Fear rules all.

3. In the UK in particular, Labour (Tony Blair) came in after people were tired of
Thatcherism, but then he proceeded to maintain everything Thatcher did, get the country into the Iraq War, and add all kinds of security state nonsense.

I think that people decided that if they were going to have Conservative government, then they might as well have the Conservatives who admitted to being Conservatives.

4. One thing I have noticed
with Sarkozy and Merkel as well as Cameron, is that they are moderates. On certain social issues, Merkel and Cameron are more progressive than Obama. The same on certain economic issues (with Sarkozy it is only on economic matters). Behind these moderates are fairly right wing parties who desire to force right wing anti-regulatory policy.

16. Yes, these aren't right-wingers like our right-wingers
They lack the religious fanaticism, the gun fixation, and the interest in regulating people's sex lives.

This link will give you a good overview to the situation (from British leftist Martin Smith)

The Free Democrats want to do away with the welfare state.
It also could bring down her government.
