Why do I care so much about the future....
Edited on Sat Aug-21-10 08:38 PM by WCGreen
I mean let's face it, someone in my state of health doesn't really need to consider what is going to be happening fifteen twenty years down the road.

I don't have any kids although I do have a couple of great step nieces and a step nephew I care about.

Most of the stuff that is at a critical point today is going to impact the future more than what is happening right now.

So why do I care so much about politics?

Why do I worry about a republican take over of the House?

I think the only reason I care so much is that this country really means something to me, what it truly stands for and what it has the potential to be...

I know in the deepest part of my heart that if the republicans, especially this crop of yahoos, gets control of the reins of power, it will be a bleak second half of this new century...

I guess that is why I care so much about what is happening.

But it could also be what I have seen twice in my lifetime when the republicans gain power and how they abuse that power for the personal gratification of their own people and damn everyone else.

I believe that this is contrary to what I think America is all about.

And this is why I am so mad at the Democrats who have the power now to stop them but are unwilling to do so for what ever reason.

Of course I could be wrong.

Maybe America is boorish, selfish, childish and vain. Maybe the other side truly does represent what America is really all about.

I really and truly hope this is not the truth.

I just can't see how people would want to return to power the same people who were there before, back when Bush and Cheney were hell bent on remaking America into some kind of evil empire that was motivated by greed and vainglorious ambition.

I have to say again why should I worry so much.

All I can say is that I want the future to be better than the past and I know if the GOP, the party of plunder, is reinstated, the future they promise looks pretty bleak indeed.

2. I'm in your boat without the health problems. I generally agree
with your analysis, and I also worry.

I'm mad at republicans. They have done everything in their power to make this country worse, not better, and that applies from the moment Obama took office and before. I can't condemn most Democrats for acting the same way, because they haven't. We know who the exceptions are.

I also want the future to be better after the agonizing years of the * admin, and I never thought it would be this difficult. Dems like Nelson and Lieberman have made it so, but I can't really think of one single republican who has done much of anything in the country's best interests.

I remain a true believer that things will get better, because for me there are no other options, being the optimist I am and the faith I have. Sometimes I think we here examine everything so minutely that all seems lost when the bigger picture turns out differently. At least I hope.

And  to you.

3. I Totally Agree
We can understand one side being selfish to the point of obscene greed and would rather see the ruin of the country if they can't have their way but when you see the ones that are supposed to be on our side, fighting for our cause sit there and do nothing. They don't get angry, they don't get even. How can many of the undecided choose the right path when they only see the side of the roadblock with their twisted values and selfish ways? The Dems are not giving them any ideas, nor another choice. Why do they insist on being steamrolled at every turn? The voters can only fight so much without our "leaders" leading the way and fighting a fair fight. This is one boxing match they requires both gloves swinging, never turning their backs to the opponents. Yet they insist on sitting in their corner and watch the repubs throw every punch. There is so much that can be done in this country but we need their help! We cannot afford to go any more backward then we already have.

4. I simply think it is easier to follow that path, the path that leads to
the republicans.

And that is why so many people choose it. They want to believe that trickle down economics works, that bettering the life of the wealthy will naturally make everyone Else's life better...

It's snake oil and snake oil sells. Always has and always will...

5. I think about this all the time. None of us will live forever, and
as we get older, it seems that all the fighting is futile. And it seems that the real problems will come down the road when we are no longer here. And I am with you. It matters because we believe in what this country's principles are, and what it can be. Thanks for saying it. (I also feel this way about environmental issues that I am passionate about.)

6. I'm with you.
No family, no kids, yet I seem to care more than those with.

The key to our future is campaign finance reform. That is the only hope we have against the monied interest.

If the Republicans do get in, I think in the long run that it will destroy them. I'm thinking in the very long run for us older folks.

7. I think those people with children don't want to face reality...
I know some kids that are coming out of college with hundreds of thousands in student loans. Hundreds of thousands. How in the hell are they going to get out from under all of that...
