Poll question: So what that the young'uns are bringing America down ... at least they've moved out of the house.
The goal: A high paying corporate job. Profits. Find and create value/corporate profits by any means necessary. Mergers. Acquisitions. Hedge funds. Derivatives. Privatization. Payola. Politics.

The enemy: Anything that gets in the way of job 1, profits. Namely labor. Well paid labor. Also, fractionation, diversity and regulations are the enemies that get in the way of consolidation.

When our kids face the challenges of the business world, as per our encouragement for success and doing any job well, they work hard at this success and victory over the adversaries of profit for the corporate entities they work for.

Hopefully for many parents, they'll be successful and they'll use this hard won education to its maximum. The children are our future :eyes:

Here's the question ...

Have we created a generation of creative opportunistic entrepreneurial privatization monsters who's goal is to be achieved by any means necessary?

4. The current young generation volunteers more than baby boomers or Gen X
and they're more likely to seek a career in a public service oriented field.

So I don't know what inspired your condescending rant but it doesn't reflect the reality of most young people today.

6. You're spot on...

but they're disorganized. How do we organize them? I keep gifting people copies of Alinsky and Lakoff and Žižek but I don't see any results...am I foolish to expect some intellectual-radical leftist critical mass to burst forth armed with tools of organizing, combating RW tropes and rejection of incremental-moderism?

7. All the Obama interns and young staff learned about Alinsky
during their campaign training. A generational shift is happening but boomers still hold the levers of power, even within progressive groups and media. Some people will miss it because they're expecting a 60's style outburst but that isn't how it will happen this time.

5. I'm pretty sure the Reagan years were worse.
The age of personal responsibility has advanced over the past few decades. Kids are maturing into adults more slowly than any time in American history. It has been said that 26 is the new 21, and anecdotal evidence suggests that is true. Kids stay at home longer, but the reason isn't they're cooking up diabolical capitalist schemes. It's partly because they can't afford to live as well on their own, can't get good paying jobs to live on their own, or have parents who have never been able to tell their child "get off your butt and take care of yourself."
