Why is there any question about whether or not someone is a Christian?

Back in the day, experienced government employees who had inquisitive minds obtained definitive answers. There was nothing for the general public to debate. No doubt remained.

People seemed to be content. Fifty dollars paid the rent.

Freaks were in a circus tent. Those were the days.

4. While I think this is true I don't think it's really the driving force.

Fanatics often think their way is the only true way. Part of that fanaticism also leads people to examine faith before all other things. Don't believe in my god or my way of worship, then I can't support you in any other aspect in life or thinking. I have seen a lot of that in both religion and political party support/worship/fanaticism.
