Active duty soldiers and Iraq/Afghanistan war vets are about to protest the deployment of combat troops, many of them wounded and suffering PTSD, to Iraq tonight. The anti-war troops plan to confront the base later on this evening with a live streaming video-cast.

"buying that crap?" Even though I was only an Army Brat, I lived with it long enough to UNDERSTAND how much of how the military works! And I see it's gotten worse since I was living with my parents, so perhaps you are just stating that "Obama" really isn't keeping his word.

Don't know for sure, but pulling out "X" number of troops as a BIG SHOW (early) and then to find out that in reality some are being deployed in a kind of "behind closed doors" way could only be construed as "hypocritical!" Not that hypocritical isn't what has gone on in D.C for more years than I like to recall, but it's not a novel concept at all! Happens ALL THE TIME!!

Anyway, just wondering because I DON'T really doubt that there could be back door deploying going on! Since my father's tour of duty there was longer than usual, I have friends I "could" contact to find out if they have had a "sniff" of it!!

In fact, I think I will call my best girlfriend from school who actually is still working for the Civil Service and she may know something. But Civil Service is a little separate, still she IS a Democrat and works on Post!

comments going on! I posted down thread and would LOVE to see this thing bust wide open! However, checking the comments here, the time of protests back then was HUGE! Now, it's mostly internet driven and may well NOT get much coverage!

It's going to take "boots" on the street for THIS PLACE to even notice ANYTHING going on! I DO KNOW THIS from personal experience as I was there in 2008 and MOST there were BUSHIES!! I found out fairly quickly NOT to talk politics because I was sooooooooooooooo outnumbered!! Some of my very good friends harbor real hate about ANYONE against the War, and I would dare say are more "tea-bag" like than anything else!!

They MUST MARCH, or NOBODY is going hear SQUAT!! The MILITARY is the MILITARY and that's why I NEVER wanted to marry anyone who was enlisted! Not that there aren't many wonderful soldiers, but having lived the life... ALL MY LIFE, I just couldn't go willing into that realm again!!

62. Thanks For Listening! I Recall Viet Nam & Was At Ft. Hood During That

time. I was young, but aware! The town of Killeen bullied the soldiers all the time, when in fact THAT town would never have been ANYTHING had not the military decided to squat there!

There was a place called Killeen Base that was OFF LIMITS to all and we never knew what was behind the barbed wire while I was there. It was locked down tight, but we later learned they were storing nuclear bombs there!!! It's open now, but looking back we were pretty naive!

Anyway, the town was always at odds with the Post with the locals acting like the hicks they were! So many soldiers were drafted and it wasn't their fault that they got dumped there! Because my father's tour was for many years more than usual, many of the kids I went to school with didn't think I was an Army brat! I never knew that until I went back for my class reunions! Usual tours were 3 years at a time, but I don't recall why we stayed so long. I also lived there after I got married and all I can say is that you would have to live there to understand!

Even though Florida frustrates me politically, and especially where I live... I would NEVER, EVER go back there to live!!

It's going to take a massive amount of soldiers to mount any type of resistance too, mainly because so many soldiers now have retired and live there! It's a military town and it could get very NASTY quickly! Much more so than back during Viet Nam I would think! They'll shut them up pretty fast!

53. As An Army "Brat" I Grew Up At Ft. Hood & Go Back For Class Reunions

every five years! I can barely stand it, but it's nice to mingle with my old school pals. HOWEVER, I get MANY very NASTY emails from some that do NOTHING but sound like "tea-baggers" and send disgusting emails about Democrats and everything many of us stand for.

I just delete them now WITHOUT even opening them, because I've told them MANY times NOT to send the CRAP! They just won't stop though, so I just ignore it!!

I did happen to live there when the Oleo Strut began and am wondering if this is the beginning of something like that! It would be such a wonderful uprising to see!

Even though the 1st & 2nd AD where there back then, now I think it's only the 1st AD, but don't even know for sure! I try to stay away from the military stuff when I go back! Killeen was ALWAYS a strange place and very deferential to the "doggies" as they called them back then. Now the place has grown and grown, and while I left when there was only 1 high school, there are now 5!! But the place is really a "dump" as Molly Ivins once told me!

She lived in Austin and when she came to Florida before she passed away I got a chance to talk with her! She was promoting a book at the time and it wasn't long after that she passed away. She was one of the good ones FOR SURE!! I was one of her biggest fans!

Anyway, I have my fingers crossed that this will GROW & GROW, because as I said the place is MUCH LARGER now then it was way back when!! It could send a VERY BIG/POWERFUL MESSAGE!! But will it grow???
