I think we should have a Japanese-style "sage" feature on DU to let posts sink when you reply.

Sage (I think it is pronounced "sah-jay" but I could be wrong) basically lets you reply without kicking the thread. It is a feature on some Japanese message boards; it is considered polite to "sage" when the conversation is basically going between two people in such a way that other people wouldn't be interested in it, or has gone off-topic.

If we had this feature, then when people want to say that they are unrec'ing the thread, they don't have to kick it in order to do so!

If as I suggest, we have the moderators able to make a kicking reply into a non-kicking reply, or vice-versa, if you have something truly interesting to say, then that kicks the thread. If you're just flaming, the thread sinks.

Maybe even give the moderators an option to turn a kicking reply into a non-kicking reply, so if a thread's full of flamage, it'll have the tendency to sink.

These kinds of ideas get lost amidst all the flame-fests that take place here, so I emailed Skinner and co., linking this thread, telling them I like this idea.

The ONLY restraint now is that they have to kick the thread in order to disrupt it.
