GM building new plant in Mexico on bailout dollars
Mexico to claim GM jobs

The United Auto Workers is rallying its Spring Hill members to protest a plan by General Motors to invest nearly $500 million into a plant in Mexico.

An article appearing in this month’s chairman report proclaims “GM turns their back on American workers!” and urges autoworkers to contact elected officials about the south-of-the-border investment.

The article, written by UAW Region 8 Director Gary Casteel, references the billions of dollars in loans given to the automaker by the U.S. federal government.

“America did not invest in GM so that they could build their products in Mexico,” Casteel writes. “This is a slap in the face to all workers, citizens and Congressional members.”

2. ENOUGH OF THIS HORSESHIT!!!
The total TARP monies was $598,274,417,298. There's 310,060,000 Americans.

That's $1,929.50 for each American.

I WANT MY $1,929.50!!! I could use it to get rid of a few debts and get caught up on others, and have more money at the end of each month!

:grr:

7. It's not a new plant
GM is investing in an existing plant. It would be nice if GM would invest the money in a plant in the US, preferable in a state that supports the unions.

10. of course you leave out the fact that no increased employment is expected;
But the flexible line — where five heavy-duty trucks could be followed by two light-duty trucks during the same run on the same line — should help prevent layoffs at the plant and keep employees working as demand changes, Rouse said.

and the 30+ thousand I spent on a GM vehicle didn't do diddly. Just WTF should they do with the assets they already have...wait lets close the Canadian plants. You must be mad to find out Mexicans built your Saturn then...the VUE is the same vehicle as the Chevy Traverse. They should close all foreign plants including the most profitable China plants to suit the UAW...Name one other auto maker that doesn't have overseas plants. If they close the Mexican plants they lose assets...and assets when used mean profits across the entire line.

11. ...certainly since the first Yankees landed foot on Maury County ground, there has been resistance.
THE COMMENTS SECTION OF THAT ARTICLE:

" This is grossly sickening! @whatadrag, GM kept pulling back and laying idle for months at a time, no one wanted them out of Spring Hill the residents of Maury County just wanted a productive plant that would help employee the many hundreds of employees that lost their jobs when GM did cut back. Also it would be bad enough to lose GM to another state within the United States but they are completely taking it out of the United States to make more of a profit. The people here have not turned their backs on GM, GM has turned their backs on every American within the United States by even entertaining this nonsense to produce a factory in Mexico. "

" Whoa jmichael, are we talking about the same county? Because as long as I can remember...certainly since the first Yankees landed foot on Maury County ground, there has been resistance. Even while GM/Saturn was closing down, post after post came into the Daily Herald...'Good riddance', 'Here's your hat, what's your hurry?', 'Don't let the door hit you in the azz on the way out', etc, etc, etc. So what are we not agreeing about here? Enlighten me. I am confused. UNLESS you were a GM/Saturn worker, you may very well have been one of the residents very eager to see them all go. Ok, they're gone. And yes, buildings are becoming empty and businesses going out but again I say...Isn't this the day the born-and-breds have dreamed of? "
