Suggestion for democratic (small d) polling on DU

Perhaps the DU message system could be used to randomly poll the members. This would be more scientific/representative than current polls and, in particular, the rec/unrec system. True, the "instant gratification" factor would be lost, because it might be necessary to poll for at least a 24-hour period in order to get enough random responses and to get responses from people who logon at different times. There would also need to be some assurance of anonymity possibly. The current system doesn't necessarily assure anonymity, anyway, and I don't mind losing instant gratification. I find instant unscientific polls instantly un-gratifying.

I'm not a pollster by profession, education, or even interest, but I thought I would post just to see what people thought.
