1. Sure, they say that now..... but look what happened after Clinton's 8 years
the economy was good so people didn't worry about things like the deficit and we got a Shrub for a president.

2. I was just conversing with a friend of mine about "the social contract"
And we were talking about a rather bastardized and unspoken version of the social contract which is more or less: we'll allow the govt and the uber-wealthy to have any kind of circle-jerk they want, as long as us Little People can continue to make an honest living, support our families, retire on something better than catfood, etc.

But when the govt continues to bail out the super-rich, and unemployment is skyrocketing, and people look around and see nothing being done about it... that's when people start casually checking out their torches and pitchforks.

Anyway, that toon is getting at the same idea, in an oblique way.

3. I can embrace this sentiment. I think what I'm seeing/hearing around this
extremely red state is exactly what the cartoon is expressing. People out of work with no hope are simply getting so angry and scared and desperate that they are grasping onto all and any criticism of the Obama admin. I know a lot of folks switched sides and voted Obama hoping he would help the middle class get back on their (our) feet, and he hasn't done it, but instead has chosen to prop up the rich and corporations who outsource our jobs. They don't feel the need to be fully rational about their feelings anymore. They see the admin as the problem and the more reasons they can have to be pissed at Obama, the less de-humanized they feel.

4. I got a different take-away from the toon...
in that the average person doesn't know the difference between Islam and Scientology, much less what they represent.
