Retrial for Blagojevich could be early next year
Former Gov. Rod Blagojevich may not have to face a retrial until early next year, but next time around his legal team could be far fewer in number.
That was the information passed to lawyers in the case in a conference last week, according to sources familiar with the matter. U.S. District Judge James Zagel told the attorneys he is eyeing January for the second trial, the sources said, and he has suggested Blagojevich can have two court-appointed attorneys who are paid with taxpayers funds.

Blagojevich's legal team of seven lawyers was paid from his campaign funds for the first trial, but taxpayers will have to foot the bill for the retrial since the $2.7 million in campaign money has run out.
