A Mother's Thoughts on Supporting the Troops
Edited on Wed Jan-31-07 10:30 AM by abluelady
I was listening to some Republican male senator talking about how you can't support the troops if you don't support the mission.

It got me thinking about how many "missions" my children took that I didn't support! Over the years they wanted to do this and that and this and that. As a mom, I wanted them happy and safe, of course, but certainly didn't approve of all their ventures. But I supported them because it was what they wanted and believed was right for them.

That is why I don't see a problem with supporting the the troops and not the mission. I wonder if that is a "female" perspective?

As an aside, there is no way in hell I want them in the military, but again I would support them but not this mission.

1. I think you caught Fresh Air with Terry Gross
You can find the interview on npr.org. I heard this interview with Jon Kyl driving home last night from the market. Kyl himself was citing an interview from ABC news that most of our soldiers do not like it when we back home say, "I support the troops but not the war." It should be noted that Senator Kyl was reading the news trancript verbatum. I thought Ms. Gross missed an opportunity to question the source info and to explore exactly what type of scenario does not justify simple blind support. She sort of softballed him.
In fairness, I believe that she countered that interview with one from Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer... But the first interview was not one of those "driveway movements"... not by a longshot.

3. I don't know. your posting was sincere... unlike Jon Kyl
who still toes the party line.

Here is what I think you heard. The Jon Kyl interview.

By the way this Kyl creep has just authored an article about liberating Iranian dissenters from the current evil regime.
