Toyota could be heading toward another recall

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Toyota Motor Corp., still on the mend from its sticky-pedal fiasco, could be tracking toward yet another big recall.

This time, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is focusing on more than 1.1 million Corolla and Corolla Matrix models from 2005 to 2007, which have been reported to suffer from engine problems.

The federal agency said 1,101 consumer complaints have been received. There have been no reported deaths or injuries related to the defect.

"The engine can stall at any speed without warning and not restart," NHTSA said in a statement on its website.

In November, NHTSA opened a preliminary investigation into the reported engine stalls. A recall has yet to be issued but the agency is widening its probe by opening an engineering analysis to further assess the problem.

Toyota is working to burnish its sullied brand after the company suffered through recalls totaling about 10 million vehicles dating back to last year. It still faces hundreds of U.S. lawsuits, including wrongful death claims. ...........(more)

5. I like American cars.

I try to support American workers and American companies whenever I can. Profits from foreign cars go overseas, even if they're made here. Profits from American cars stay here even if they're made in a foreign country.

It would be nice if all American cars could be made here in America, but the field isn't level and until it is, that won't happen.

I drive past Walmart and see mostly foreign cars in the parking lot.

I'm proud that there are no foreign cars in my garage. Never have been, and I hope there never will be. I don't want to contribute to the problem.

I won't buy a sub-par product - create one just as good and then I would choose the American car first.

There was a time Hondas were considered to be crap cars. Clever marketing fooled people into buying them. Just like Toyota.

At any rate, it makes no difference.

We should all be supporting America, instead of FOREIGN CORPORATIONS.

13. My Honda Civic is over 20 years old and it runs great and gets about 40 mpg -

nothing I just said has jack to do with marketing.

I've driven Fords, Chevys, Toyotas and Hondas, and my current Honda is by far the best car I have owned.

11. American car designers and CEOs are to blame for the industry's

downfall. Their greed and stupidity have caused American workers  to suffer. Unfortunate, but that's how it is.

Back in the 50s and 60s we led the world in automotive design (and in medicine, science, and education.) Now we're an international joke on all these fronts. It makes me want to cry.

12. Same here. I've bought nothing but Fords since 2000 and have loved every one of 'em.

Those would be union-made-in-the-USA Fords.
