Any fellow DU Parents out there worry for their kids' future?

I am worried what my son and daughter will face when they 'come of age' as in where they'll work, and how...

1. i am not worried about my kids. i am worried about a lot of kids though.

i dont think it is good.... i dont like what i see. but

i do believe the environment you create for your children, the lessons learned, the foundation provided will benefit the children on their journey, hence, i am not worried about my kids. not here. not now. i cant tell you about later. that will have to come later.

My oldest is 18 today and I wonder if he will even have a chance to get through college or even HAVE a job to help him through the next couple years...
my younger ones are 7 & 8 and I can't even begin to think what life will be like in the next 5 years, much less ten...

8. No jobs ...no gas ...no affordable homes ...and then food and water shortages...

...and that's if you even dare to eat mass production foods anymore ...all while the military gets all it wants and needs in the name of national security.

9. I am kind of relieved that I do not have children, for this reason

and also a couple of other reasons. I have enough trouble taking care of myself. And, the earth is overpopulated already.

10. Yes I do and contrary to what the repukes are saying

I'm really not that worried about handing them a deficit. I'm much more worried about giving them a country so divided politically that nothing gets accomplished for the good of all americans. I'm worried that I'm giving them a world where they can't trust the so-called newscasters to give them the facts - and only the facts - about what's going on in the world. I'm worried that they are inheriting a country where whoever has the most money to buy the politicians wins, I'm worried that they're inheriting a country where a huge portion of the population lacks the critical thinking skills to see beyond the slogans they're being force fed by right wing radio and TV. I'm worried about leaving them a country where there is no middle class...just the have a lots...and the have nothings.

My parents had seen such a piss poor economy all of their lives that they didn't even believe it when we got that little boom in 1998. Short-lived though it was.

I'll be lucky to retire at age 80. Kids now may be 90...

19. I'm sad about the things they'll probably not experience

When I was their age, we snorkeled over coral reefs which are now devastated.

We caught (and ate) fish from Wisconsin rivers and lakes that are now contaminated.

We could afford a house and a new-ish car on one teacher's income.

Yep, it's depressing for me to contemplate my kids growing up in an age of global warming.

I just finished reading The Road, and I kept picturing my kids in that situation. Some days are like that. Yikes.

22. My kids are all grown and gone

but I still have worries for their futures. It's going to be a tough time saving for retirement in the next four decades.
