Dems need to go all out to win Governorship of FL

1) FL is a big state and will be important for redistricting.
2) We saw in 2000 what a GOP governor can do in a presidential race.

I think in Scott, Sink has the best possible opponent to go after. He is a former health care executive--of a company with major Medicare fraud abuse. But he also is rich--so will throw a lot of money around. However, Sink had an easy primary and came out smelling like a rose while Scott and McCollum hurt themselves in the state and drove down their favorability numbers.

For me it would be a big win if Dems on 11/2 win the governorships of FL, TX, and CA--all three are doable according to the polls--the major reason is that those states are growing and will have a big impact on redistricting.

Redistricting is coming next year and it will be done state by state at the direction of each State's Governor.

I googled it for Florida and the Governor has basically no role in it. It is done by the legislature and then must be approved by the Supreme Court.

Here is where I got that from:

Redistricting in Florida is done by the state legislature. They are expected to pass a joint resolution either during the regular session or a thirty day special session called by the governor. (If they fail finish an apportionment plan, the Supreme Court is to make one within sixty days). Once the legislature has passed a joint resolution, the Supreme Court determines its validity and it becomes law. If the plan is not approved by the Court, the legislature fixes any problems during a fifteen day session after which it goes back to the Supreme Court again. If the plan is not approved (again), or if the legislature is not able to reach a new joint resolution within the fifteen days, the Court has sixty days to make its own plan. The governor does not have veto power over the legislative or Supreme Court plan.

Electing Alex Sink (D) to be Governor of Florida is really important, but for other reasons, not redistricting.

He has a lot of baggage. And yes, winning the Governorship of Florida is a top priority.

4. He also pissed off a lot of Republicans.

Several of them have commented in the paper reader's forum saying that they would vote for Sink, over a crook like Scott.

3. Scott also has a problem with the way he ran Solantic.

He had to give a deposition and refuses to release the transcripts. He claims it's a "private" matter. Nothing is private in politics anymore. Sink should hammer him hard on this one.
