The GOOP is a boys club where you "wait your turn" for a shot at the golden ring. In '96 it was Dole...who waiting his turn since '76 and McCain got his shot after he waited til the booosh pillage was complete. Mittens not only has money, he's been raising it from others...the "establishment" who are the ones who write the big checks that ultimately determine the nomination.

Mooselini is more a media celebrity than bona fide candidate and polls show it. She barely cracks 25% in any GOOP poll against the other prospective candidates and doesn't have the organization in place Mittens does. He's been around this block before, she hasn't...and if Gnewt and Hucklenutz also run they'll siphon off a lot of the wingnut vote...Mittens, like McCain...splits the difference.

Forget about Jeb. He's enjoying making big coin and knows that running against an incumbent...even one facing a tough re-election is not only financially draining but emotionally as well. If he's gonna take his shot, his turn comes in 2016.

A lot depends on what happens this November...if the teabaggers come out with some big victories, we could see some very interesting primaries and nasty cat fights.

(R)s like to nominate the next in line, it is just in the mind set of conservatives to do so. They can't help themselves.

It also helps with the western strategy, with his ties to Utah.

He also has ties to Michigan, and in '08 it became clear McCalin/Pain had little to no chance of winning once they pulled out of Michigan.


They simply are not clever enough to come up with anyone else. I am betting on Mitt. (although I may cross over to vote for Sarah in the primary, just to screw with them)

30. I think it will be Romney in 2012. If Kasich wins the governorship in Ohio then I think he'll be

the GOP nominee in 2016 (assuming Obama defeats his Republican opponent, which I believe he will). If Kasich loses in November than I think Bobby Jindal will be the nominee in 2012.

If we Dems can win in 2012 and 2016 then I think there are a few GOP possibilities for 2020--Marco Rubio (if he wins this year), Liz Cheney (if she can win a Senate or House seat in Virginia) and Paul Ryan (who seems to be the emerging heir apparent to Jack Kemp).

I don't think Sarah Palin will run in 2012. She might run for Mark Begich's Alaska Senate seat in 2014. Win or lose, that would take her out of the running for 2016. The earliest I can see Palin running for president is 2020. But that would be the year she was up for re-election (if she wins the Senate seat). So I don't think she'll run for president until 2024 or 2028. I don't see her winning at any point, and I'm skeptical as to whether she can even win the GOP nomination. She was a problematic candidate in 2008 and things have gotten a lot worse for her since then.

Republicans know that they need control of congress first. Dole was a lame candidate and I'm thinking whomever they send in 2012 will be just as week. Better to control congress first and then get their guy in office so they can do more damage like they did during the Bush years.

If he has an overall job approval number under 45 in late fall 2011, they'll smell blood in the water and try very hard to unseat him.

and run a 3rd party candidate, but the GOP will probably go with Mitt.
Mitt has nothing to say and no real ideas, so he is perfect for them in this election - he has great hair and a big smile and wears great suits and does not look as much of an idiot as say, Fred.

* I don't think McCain will bother to run in '12, but if he does they may take him again instead of Mitt...His last campaign?

I don't think the "real" GOP honestly expects to win in '12 anyway, and they won't.


Look for a huge GOP selection of potential candidates for 2016 within a few weeks of the election in '12...Newt, Jeb, Sarah (Maybe), a few more from the South, maybe even Santorum, lots more...they will be going all out for '16 against an unknown Democrat.
It would be great if we had a really outstanding candidate ready and waiting, but being Democrats I would not count on that...

Santorum has been showing up in Iowa, but he's more likely to try to get the Governorship of PA.

Logic says Romney, but he's too centrist for the T-baggers, and the fundies can't get past his religon.

I think it's going to be Palin, with Newt Gingrich as Veep and puppet master.
