Just how big area does the "hallowed ground" encompass?

From what I understand, the Mosque to be built that is in question is 2 blocks away from ground zero.

Is the "hallowed ground" just ground zero? Is it 2 to 3 blocks around ground zero? Is it all of lower Manhattan? Is it the whole Island? Will it be the new right wing holy land?

The issue for me is rather simple. If the Mosque is isn't allowed to be built in its current stated spot, then the right wing can start moving the goal posts further and further down field.

If not here, where?

That's why, to me, it's never been about the Mosque, it's always been about control and racism.

I'm not sure I'd agree with it, but one could certainly make that argument. As they could for this building (which I also don't agree with). I'm just saying that this is what I've heard in response to the "how far is far enough" question.

I thought the observation about the BK building--which no one has argued is "hallowed ground"--serves to expose the hypocrisy of those who claim the Burlington Coat Factory is hallowed ground (either by virtue of proximity to the WTC site, or by having been struck, like many other buildings, by crash debris).

As to the "how far is far enough" question, when protesters are demonstrating against mosque sites in TN and WI--and even as far away as Temecula, CA--it seems like no place is far enough away for some.
