Let's see: we've got the 'base' (those poor bastidges) totally sewn up, so we can take them completely for granted. Where are they gonna go, anyway? They're good little citizens. They'll vote, all right, and they'll vote for us. And if they don't vote, fuck 'em! Fuck 'em if they can't take a joke.
Now how are we going to peel those precious centrists away from our good friends the Republicans? Hey! Why don't we make a big show of pissing all over the base (those poor bastidges)? Think they'll notice our total disloyalty to the people we absolutely rely on to get our asses into office? It's a gamble, I know. But I think it's a gamble worth taking, right?
Let's pat ourselves on the backs for our tremendous political courage! Wouldn't FDR be proud!
