This is an excellent introduction to Scott McAdams, who won the Democratic Senate primary here on Tuesday night. Unless Lisa Murkowski manages to come from behind with the absentee ballots, Scott will be running against Teabagger extraordinaire Joe Miller. Please, a little money goes a long way in Alaska -- if you are looking for someone to contribute to, this is your guy.
Less than 48 hours after Scott McAdams was declared the winner of the democratic primary for U.S. Senate in Alaska, he is already the #5 fundraiser on ActBlue. Let’s get him to number one NOW. He needs capital to get this campaign rolling into high gear. Even a small donation will buy some bumperstickers, or a yard sign. Heck, this is Alaska… $10 will buy a radio commercial!
Remember that every state gets two senate seats, regardless of its population. That means a $100 donation to Scott McAdams is the equivalent of almost $2000 to a senate candidate in Texas. So if you want your political dollars to have the most bang for their buck, and if you want a great new Democratic Senator for the state of Alaska, you know where to put them. Don’t you feel influential?
Why step up right now?
Because if you don’t, you know what you’ll get? Joe Miller. In the United States Senate. Endorsed by Palin. Endorsed by Huckabee. Endorsed by the Tea Party Express and their billionaire backers. Endorsed by Fox News talking heads. His campaign has been rolling for weeks, so we have some catching up to do.
But can we do it? You betcha.
Scott McAdams was born and raised in Alaska and worked on commercial fishing boats all across the state. He understands fisheries, coastal issues, resource management, resource development, Alaskan jobs, and the unique issues facing all Alaskans. The Last Frontier is in his blood.
Joe Miller? Born and raised in Kansas. A little coastline challenged… Just saying.
Scott McAdams cares about kids and education. He decided to start his public service career by focusing on kids, and how we can give them the best chance for a productive future in our state. He ran for and was elected to the school board, and among his many positions, he served as the President of the Sitka School Board, and the President of the Association of Alaska School Boards.
Joe Miller? He wants to abolish the Department of Education.
Scott McAdams, in addition to his elections to the school board, was elected mayor of Sitka, Alaska. He has balanced budgets. He has executive experience. People liked him enough to trust him with the reins. He’s even figured out how his city and his people can benefit from the export of a non-traditional resource that Sitka has in abundance – water!
Joe Miller? He was elected to…. um… NOTHING. That’s right, he’s never held elected office. But he thinks it’ll be fun to try it out while he’s representing you in Washington D.C.? Alaskans and Americans deserve better than to be a set of training wheels because the Tea Party and Sarah Palin think they can buy an election.
Is Scott McAdams worth fighting for? Absolutely. He’s just been added to the Senate Candidates Worth Fighting For page at Act Blue! Remember what I said – a little goes a long way, so don’t think that your contribution is too small to matter. Trust me, it’s not.
As I’ve said before, I heard a Murkowski campain worker on election night call the prospect of Joe Miller in the senate “terrifying.” But we’re lucky, because we not only have something we’re fighting against, but we have someone worth fighting FOR. This could be the biggest upset of the 2010 election, and it’s absolutely doable. All it needs is support from YOU.
Here is the audio clip of Scott’s press availability yesterday.

We’ve seen what this country can do, and how Democrats and Independents and thinking Republicans can come together and change things. These opportunities don’t come along very often in Alaska. Let’s take advantage of this amazing opportunity to secure one of those hundred seats for a really awesome candidate.
