Over population. In the mid 1970s, the Earth’s population was approximately four billion people. It’s estimated that by next year, the world’s population will reach seven billion.
The real threat to every human being on this planet is that Earth’s resources are being stretched to the breaking point. And we are doing nothing to stop this impending disaster.
Are we doomed to go the same way as the dinosaurs? I have no idea. And the only remedies I can think of are:
A nuclear holocaust.
A plague, such as that which killed almost half the population of Europe in the 14th century.
A meteor hitting Earth.
A limit of only one child per family. (China did this in the 20th century.)
I’m sure there are many other possible scenarios, but these are the obvious ones that come to mind.
So what’s to be done? Well, we can follow China’s attempt at a solution. Or we can give a free hand to all those who believe in genocide. Or we can go pray to some universal intelligence that may or may not exist. Or, we can just ignore it, thus assuring that our grandchildren and/or great grandchildren may have abbreviated lives.
For those who don’t believe there’s a problem, you can always hope that the worldwide food riots don't come about in your lifetime. But of most importance, become aware of the enormous threat that the entire human race is facing. If you have a possible solution, I'd really like to hear it.
