That's the thing that most gets under my skin about the Beckapalooza today. And while I don't dispute his right to say it, who the fuck does he think he's fooling? His shitty-ass little product-placement phrase, ready-made for t-shirts and bumper stickers, is a slap in the face for those who have suffered and died for the Civil Rights MOVEMENT. Who is Beck supposed to be liberating? Who's rights is he supposed to be standing up for? What, some stodgy-ass white people who feel oppressed under the "liberal yoke" of a black President? Folks who have never had to deal with real prejudice? To subvert a genuine nation changing event and turn it into a commercial circle-jerk, and more disgustingly so on the site of the legendary speech (but two flights down), makes me want to lose my breakfast.
